Blood Barn of Staley Road!

Do you remember that time when you're a teenager and your friend group starts driving so you immediately turn into a roving band of paranormal ghost investigating werewolf hunters? Maybe that was just my friend group. One of the COOLEST investigations we pulled was the Blood Barn. On the outskirts of New Carlisle sits Staley Road. Legend has it that there is a haunted barn... THE BLOOD BARN. The way I heard the story was the old scary farmer that lived there went ABSOLUTELY MENTAL and hanged his entire family in the barn then walked outside and comitted suicide with a shotgun. Ever since then there was a HUGE BLOODY STAIN outside the barns door that never goes away no matter how many coats of paint they put over it. There is absolutely no evedence to prove these claims not that I have looked very hard. Maybe one of these days for the benefit of my website I will. Wouldn't that be a hoot? I'm not sure when it happened but a distillery opened in the barn at some point over the past 20 years so in theory I could visit and bug the owner about the history of the location.

Anyway it was about 25 years ago give or take when I first heard this legend. One of the other friend groups that kind of hung around because of how MEGA SWEET the primary group was went and investigated it. They came back to the porch (My Mom's porch where all the best kickin it occured) and told us how TOTALY SCARED OUT OF THEIR MINDS THEY WERE. When they went on their late night drive by they saw a SCARY OLD MAN STANDING BY THE ROAD. Now that is kind of spooky but seeing as this is a decades old allegedly haunted legendary location this old farmer probably just hates ding dong teenagers messing around by his barn. So we all loaded up into Seth Rocks GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE and went to see it for ourselves. The vehicle was packed but beyond myself, Seth Rock and Anthony I forget exactly who all went on this mission.

The BLOOD BARN was about 20 minutes north of our hometown and during the entire drive Anthony kept going on and on about how he isn't afraid of ghosts but he is DEATHLY AFRAID of dogs and hopes he doesn't run into any dogs. Eventually we made it to Staley road and when you turn off of State Route 201 onto Staley Road you quickly come to a sharp bend with a BLOOD RED BARN right on the edge of the road. This corner is where the allged blooad stain is, which is true there is a big old melon sized stain but it's about 10 feet higher than ground level. Who knows how it was laid out in 1852 or whatever. The road itself is also spooky, the entire run of the road is heavily foerested with tall trees that block out the sun even in the middle of a bright summer day giving off a bit of a tunnel effect.

We drove past and didn't see much beyond a spooky barn but as Anthony was saying "man I hope we don't see any DOGS" a HUMONGOUS white long haired dog LEAPT out of the woods and started snarling and chasing Seth Rock's Jeep Grand Cherokee. In the red glow of the brake lights the white beast appeard to be glowing red like a HELL HOUND. It actually scared the bejeebers out of everyone and we got the hell out of there.

Since that time I've done a little bit of reasearch about the haunting and what's interesting to me is there is no consistent story. There are at least a few main haunting legends regarding this road. There's the Blood Barn murder suicide story, ghostly aparitions walking along the road or lying in the middle that mysteriously disappear, frequent fatal car crashes and the sounds of gunfire with no apparent source. These multiple tales along with our own experience has lead me to believe that the haunting shows people what they are most scared of. There is definitely a high level of SPOOKY ENERGY in this area like I said it's even spooky at noon in the middle of the summer. When the location opened up as a distillery there were other buildings added to the property and the bright blood red barn was painted a dark gray or brown color. AS of 2024 on my last drive past you can still see the stained spot through the darker paint. The photo I took with my cell phone didn't show it very well maybe I will take a trip with my DSLR camera and see if I can get it to show better. And perhaps one day I will follow through with the threat of making contact with the owner on one of the distillery tours and just casually asking what he knows about the legends, how annoying it is living in a haunted location and if there is any truth to any of the legends.
