Game log! What have I been playing? Notes I can refer back to when I return to games after a long absence!

11/22/2024 (1020 Hrs):Managed to get in some more Burning Rangers time in today. It wasn't much but I am getting a bit better at dodging the explosions. I was almost to the end of the second stage or at least made a lot more progress into it. The voice navigation system is also pretty cool. I know the game has replay value and moves items and people that need rescuing around but I am already bummed there's only 4 stages. I haven't even finished the dang thing yet and I'm wishing there was a sequel or that the game was longer. It's pretty rad and I wish I had given it a play through years ago. I think what put it into my mind is that today is the Saturns 30th annversary, in Japan at least, and the spirit of Segata Sanshiro was calling out to me to get in some Saturn times for the big anniversary.

11/20/2024 (1010 Hrs):I managed to play a little bit of Burning Rangers. I've started it up and played the tutorial a few times in the past but never actually got into the game. Today I managed to play the first level, beat the boss and started the second level before needing to stop for the day. I hope to get some time this weekend to go through the game a bit more.

11/18/2024 (1310 Hrs): Earlier in the day I tried to play some Burning Rangers on my Saturn equiped with the mode. The Clock battery had died and that apparently causes an issue. After a lot of time messing around with it I managed to get it working again. I did however kill a controller in the process. Very cool. I thought I had another Japanese style Saturn controller but apparently not. I have a few of the original US ones that I managed to play the game with for a few minutes. Bought a cheap actually from Japan style controller but the color is uglier than the plain black ones we got. IDK man I just wanted to play Burning Rangers. Mostly I wanted to make sure I was all set to play in the future so in that regard mission accomplished but dang I did not expect this struggle session. What have I done to anger Segata Sanshiro? I guess I must play Saturn ONE HOUR A DAY!

11/06/2024 (1933Hrs): Firing up some Final Soldier 2 Minute Caravan mode on the PSP collection.

11/05/2024 (1945Hrs): Took a hot bath to relax after an incredibly long and busy day. Took the PSP with me and played a bit of Super Star Soldier's 2 Minute mode. Consistently improved my scores along the way but they were absolute dogshit. Looked at a PC Engine reddit for posts about Caravan modes and the goober there was getting well over 600K scores. My Scores were like 180k at best lmao. But it was like the first 20 minutes I put into that game. So who knows maybe I will do a little research into the scoring and what to look out for to improve my scores. Maybe I'll watch a few videos. There really isn't a ton of info on caravan modes.

11/04/2024 (1210Hrs)Obtained some PSP games. Picked up Star Solder for the psp and Pc Engine Best Collction: Soldier Collection. Played a bit of Star Soldie which plays in Tate mode on the PSP. Very cool but kind of unwieldy. I think this is a port that's available on other systems I will have to check that out later. But for now this is pretty cool and does have a 2 and 5 minute caravan mode. Very cool.
I did put a little time into Final Soldier and Star Parodier on the Soldier collection. I need to put some time into the otehr two games on the collection before determining which PC Engine shooter I do pick up. Final Soldier is not well loved by the STG community because it's a little bit easier but I'm a plebian and not particularly skilled so this might be right up my alley as a game I can play as a confidence booster.
(1310Hrs) Played some 2 minute caravan Star Parodier. Very fun.
(1835Hrs)Played a really good run of Zelda Ancient Dungeon at work on my phone. I had to do something vaguely work related with my phone and my emulator ate my run. I had the bow and arrow...I forgot it used rupees as ammo but once I figured that out and was more conservative with my shootin I was having a blast clearing that dungeon. After that I fired up a bit more of Star Soldier for the PSP. Changed some settings around and and tried out some of the other ships. I think I'm going to be able to make a little bit of progress on this one. That's cool. I will definitely keep this in mind for future caravan hi score modes.

11/02/2024 (0912Hrs): Played some Starship Hector 2 minute mode to record some footage for a promo. I want a short video to attempt to draw in more players to the HiScore Club.
(1215Hrs)I downloaded the Zelda Ancient Dungeon romhack, its a Rogue-like Zelda dungeon crawler. I played a decent run until my son got bored and spazzed out so I let him take over. He cleared quite a few boards.
Zelda Ancient Dungeon
(1713Hrs)Set up an NES phone emulator, hooked up the Switch controller to the phopne and played some more Zelda Ancient Dungeon. Very cool. I'm looking forward to playing this at work on my Dex set up.
(2000Hrs)I've been playing Zelda Ancient Dungeon since I got to work at 1730Hrs. The Switch controller or the emulator leaves something to be desired compared. I feel like the NES and a real controller is the way to go. But eventually I got the hand of it even with the sloppier Dpad. Then I realized it was an emulator and I could run with some Save states. But I had an idea for the next game challenge. You can seed a dungeon so I will spelly out Jerry T with numbers like off a telephone so it would be 537798. Then I can make a post about seeing who can get the furthest in that particular dungeon seed. I think that would be fun and may be the December challenge.

11/01/2024: Played a little Twinkle Star Sprites for the Dreamcast. Fun arcade shooting game where you can play against an opponent. Scoring big and hitting combos gives the other player hell and this volley goes back and forth until a player KO's the other. This will be a lot more fun playing against another real person.

10/29/2024: Got a little bit of basement time so I fired up Starship Hector to get a two minute hi score. I was also working on a hiscore feature to implement on the site in the future. So that was also a contributing factor. LATER THAT NIGHT: I took the Gameboy light to work tonight to put some time into Dragon Warrior Monsters. I was really looking forward to some level grinding in Dragon Warrior III for the GBC earlier this week but this other Dragon Warrior game will have to scratch that itch. I do enjoy the Rogue-Like random dungeon gameplay. Plenty of monsters to bash. EVEN LATER THAT NIGHT: PLayed some Ninja Jajamaru The Great Yokai Battle on the Switch. I'm stuck on a boss fight. I will get it eventually! After that played a little City COnnection on Switch online for the first time. If I find it for less than $10 I might pick up a real copy for a Hi Score challenge. It's a simple arcade game but very difficult. Yes my interest in the game is that the car is a power up in Ninja Jajamaru.

10/27/2024: I brought along my Gameboy Advance and Everdrive GB to work tonight. I had planned to do some level grinding in Dragon Warrior III. I was in the final dungeon before beating the game. Games are loading but not starting. SUPER. I knew I should have started DWIII on the real carts that I own. What a major let down I will never start that game over having been so close to the end and with the remake coming out soon. What a load of horse plop. I did want to eventually complete every single Dragon Warrior game, each version, but man I have been plugging away at the GBC version for years and was so close to the end. I will attempt to trouble shoot this when I get home but holy cow what a disappointment tonights planned game session was. I really hope I can recover that save file.

10/25/2024: Rune Factory 3 Special Switch. I want to get through all the boring tutorial parts of this game so I can start playing the game with my daughter so I'm taking it to work to get through those boring early parts. I was trying to get through the farming tutorial and accidentally skipped a piece of dialogue and didn't know what to do. That was kind of frustrating. I also tried to pick up a quest from the message board in the town center and it appears I did pick up the quest but when I talk to the resident they tell me to go pick up the quest which is to talk to the resident. I think I hate this games user interface. Is it because it's a DS remake? I don't know man I will keep trying to plug away at it but so far it's really not blowing my skirt up.

Ninja Jajamaru The Great Yokai Battle + Hell Deluxe Switch. I checked this one out from the rich people library and enjoyed it so much I bought a copy on ebay for $19 shipped. This is a great game for short bursts or long sessions. This has been a great game to play at work when it's slow. I've been getting my ass kicked by the leaderboard level.
